I've been frustrated since some of these skirts are unavailable, too expensive, or only offered in a couple sizes.
Which one do you like best? Seen any others out there?

Still searching for a lace, tulle, or light crinkle skirt to wear with a sweater this fall. Love the pairing of heavy and so light!

Small accessory. Big impact. Red is everywhere all the sudden--a touch of red heats up any outfit.
The problem with buying any separate is that then you're driven to find it a match. I've been a bit obsessed with finding skirts to wear with the J. Crew tanks I picked up in the sale (below). But then I saw the castle skirt from Mini Boden, and I got hooked on how nice I thought it might look with the tank. There it was again at Anthropologie--not a terrible terrible price but a bit too high for me. Could I fit into the Mini Boden one in its largest size since it's less than half the price? Elastic waist and "height" of 64.5 inches--it might be big and long enough! Is it worth the trouble to find out, or do I just bite the Anthropologie bullet? Hmmm...
While we're at it, has anyone seen a knee-length black and white skirt under $50 I could wear with the same tank below in purple? OMF: Let me start off by saying what a fabulous blog you have! OMF: Why, thank you! OMF: So tell me about your blog. OMF: Well, I’ve been posting every day since around January. I like finding current fashions for women in unusual places (Pottery Barn Dorm, the men’s department, teen catalog companies, maternity sections, bookstores) that can save people money. I don’t post photos of myself on the whole; I post links to the clothes; pretty much everything is available online. OMF: How’s it gone these past 6 months? What have you learned? OMF: Most of the time it’s been great! I’ve learned how to post, tweet, retweet, pin up, mention, shout out, comment, and basically connect with people around the world. I’ve made new friends from coast to coast, overseas, and here at home in Colorado. I’ve learned what it takes to flourish in social media, and I've learned what not to do. OMF: What shouldn't you do? OMF: Sell yourself out. One day I liked a whole troop of organizations just to get followed back. But I didn’t really choose carefully, and most of them weren’t my target audience. I felt like a FB/Twitter slut. Lol. But it wasn't the worst thing in the world. I got to know some new people and organizations. OMF: Any other drawbacks? OMF: Well, sometimes I feel like I'm talking to myself. Oh wait, I'm doing that now :-) OMF: And what should you do? OMF: Keep it fun and gracious and helping others. My favorite thing to do is to promote individuals and small merchants (like those on Etsy) and help spread the word about good causes. OMF: How much has your blog cost you so far? OMF: About $100: 2 years of domain cost and a little of this and that (business cards, a contest prize). And an uncountable number of hours of time and thought. OMF: Have you purchased every clothing piece you’ve posted? OMF: No, but I buy many of them. Sometimes posting about an item has helped stave off the desire to buy now! Other times, posting has made me even more convinced that I must have that outfit. OMF: What was your best post? OMF: Well, the one that got the most comments on Facebook was one I reposted from another source--it was a photo gallery of things men should stop wearing right now by Adam Fox, a luxury fashion buyer based in New York City. The one that got the most likes on the website, though, was one about customer reviews and a great simple, go-everywhere black dress for about $28. OMF: What’s your favorite thing on the blog? OMF: Well, often I have the most fun with the title of the blog post. I liked my post Mini, not skirt, which features Asics tennis shoes that look like Mini Cooper cars--so cute! I also love all these red suede shoes: Who can be blue in red suede shoes? On the OMF webpage, I like the Lost Forever page where people tell stories of their lost clothing. OMF: What other blogs do you visit? OMF: I visit tons of blogs every week and often like and comment! Some that stand out for me: Pretty Shiny Sparkly, Trend Hungry, the Queen City Style, Penny Chic, Colorado Mountain Mom, School Gate Style, The White List, but I like it, and Style à la Mode. I also love the new fashion community of bloggers, photographers, fashion students, and designers at Rivista di Moda. OMF: Where are you going from here? OMF: Well, my new plan is to post when I have something irresistible to post rather than every day. I’m sticking closer to my mission of finding great things in unusual places. OMF: Anything else you want to add? OMF: Yes, I’d like to thank my family and friends for supporting me and putting up with me. My husband has been wonderful, always praising and supporting OMF. My son has served as an occasional photographer and trusty consultant. My friends, especially Christina, Tami, Lisë, Juliet, and Paul, have put up with me talking too much about OMF. I'm so grateful for Jessy's, Courtney's, Chadijah's, Glenn's, Katie's, Lisa's, Sarita's (@saritacoren), and Janis' (@Patches60) support. I especially want to thank Susan for her support, and it's been wonderful to reconnect with her! OMF: Well, thank you so much for talking with us! OMF: My pleasure—really—thanks for interviewing me :-). Please send any questions or comments to OMF at openmindfashion@gmail.com or post a comment below :-).
On Sundays, we love promoting individuals, small businesses, and organizations that support a good cause like the environment, music, and people in need. Just grab your cell phone, click a photo of your favorite t-shirt, old or new, and email it to openmindfashion@gmail.com. We'll write up a bit about you and/or your organization and spread the word through the blog, Facebook, and Twitter. We'll also post it on the permanent T-shirt Sunday Tees page.
Which tee do you like best in the collection? Make something good come from something bad. Have you lost an article of clothing lately? Do you miss a sweater,
scarf--whatlostyou--you used to have? Tell us your story. We'll commiserate and publish it here: Lost Forever. I went shopping with a friend of mine about a week ago, and I couldn't believe all the sequiny things I saw! Sequins are still going strong; in fact, there seems to be even more sequined items and metallics than a year ago. I was drawn to the sequin shorts at Express, but my tall, model-like friend had tried them, and she said the sequins don't lie flat unless you have a perfect figure or shoot for a loose fit.
By the way, what do you think of sequins in the daytime? I like colored sequins just for a bit of variety--the top below comes in "parisian plum." Fun to pair high and low--dressy sequins on just a tank top. |
