A callback to the 50s, I'd like the skirt to be the slightest bit flippy and the sweater to be the slightest bit tight.
Perhaps because my new H&M bras are quite self-promoting (;-), I've been craving v-neck sweaters and a-line skirts. An outfit a day that you could wear anywhere--to work, out for coffee, or on a date. Brock Davis designed these adorable kids' t-shirts for Target. Available in select Target stores, $8.99 each. More on David Brock here. T-shirt Sunday TeesEndless.com has been my all-out favorite shoe resource since I discovered them about two years ago. A truly endless selection, cheaper than Zappos, never the run-around, 2-day free delivery, free returns....
Now they've been absorbed by Amazon. I like Amazon, sure. But I'm grieving the loss of my beloved Endless, and I know it'll never be quite the same. I'm turning to OnlineShoes.com for the rebound. Any other suggestions for great online shoe sites? What's your favorite shoe store? Seeking an easy way to create a new look? Tie a knot in your old necklaces, ribbons, and leather cords.
More tips for revitalizing the items you already own hereDo you think it's ok to wear something only once or twice? Here's the story of one such item. I bought it in the summer of 2011 in the girls' section at GAP--it's a girls' XL dress that I decided to wear as a tunic. I was particularly taken by the ruffle around the neck and black & white dots! When I got home, I decided it was too long to wear as a tunic, so I used Mighty Mendit to glue up the hem a few inches. Then I wore the top to work and to dinner with my sister for her birthday. "You look nice--very Julia Roberts at a polo match," my boss said. "What a cute top!" my sister said. We had a lovely dinner at a French crepe restaurant. I thought the tunic was a success, so I peeled off the Mighty Mendit and got it professionally hemmed 4 inches shorter, but now I fear it's one inch too short. The total that I paid for the top, even after its alteration, is about $40. I managed to wear it once more, to meet some friends for coffee at a bookstore. It was a success for that event too--I felt cultured and fun--but I've never managed to wear it since. So is it ok to wear something just once or twice? I asked my friends on Facebook... One friend says, "Noooo! There's no return of investment then, lol!" Another friend says, "Absolutely! It's all about how you feel in it at the moment for the event! Many of my favorite outfits I've only gotten to wear once--it makes them more special for that." The Urban Lioness says: "If you like it, why not wear it again! There are loads of ways to wear everything:)." I like the memories associated with this top and maybe that's enough. Or maybe I just need the right cardigan to throw over it? Any suggestions for how I can wear my top again? Won't you please share the story behind one of your articles of clothing? Roaming through the boutiques on Larimer Square the other day, I came across the Michael Stars top below at Roxy.
I was already drawn to the colorblock sweater I'd found at Garnet Hill; here was the the same style--the colorblock forearms--playful and slightly unexpected. I wondered if I might be able to create the look myself layering color under a dark gray tee, but it's not quite the same, especially since the Michael Kors top is slightly sheer. Do you like the style? Have you seen it elsewhere? |
