Excuse me, where's the baby supposed to go?

Whether or not they've been pregnant, most women run screaming from the room at the sight of maternity clothes.

But maternity wear has changed from the muu-muus of the 1800s. Today's prego styles are close-fitting and shapely.

Whether or not she has a belly, maternity clothes are made to accentuate a woman's assets and downplay her flaws.

So don't pass by the maternity section--you might find some styles there that are the perfect length, a flattering cut, and a great price! More examples here: Maternity clothes: not just for the pregnant

(Warning: If you've been prego, you should probably buy new maternity clothes, not wear the ones you wore during your pregnancy which may be stretched out and may be sized bigger than you need.)

Take this maternity sweater dress from H&M--nothing tent-like about it--in fact, I don't know where the baby would go in this dress if I were pregnant! The length was right, and price was good (about $30), but I didn't buy it because the small (shown) was too tight and one of the shoulders on the medium was pulled out of shape by the hangar. But the dress does actually make me look curvier and thinner than usual.

Sweater dresses equal quick and easy dressing. To hide figure flaws, I'd buy them not too tight and throw on tights or leggings (regular or cordoroy) underneathe. I think most of these would look nice with gray heather tights.
