As we close out the year in this month of frigid temperatures and deep snow across much of the country, I worry about those without homes and heat. The United Way is the backbone behind so many initiatives to improve the education, financial stability, and health of the people in communities across America. I dream of a country in which everyone has an education, a stable job, and a warm home.

Plaid jackets, plaid leggings, today it's plaid shirts. Will the madness end? I'll get help.

I think the trick to tucking a shirt and not looking too masculine or b-o-r-i-n-g is to go with feminine colors and details.

Do you have a Christmas "uniform"?

Every Christmas I pull out this same red skirt and typically wear it with a black turtleneck (even though recently I knocked black and red! :-).

This year I thought I'd try to shake things up by pairing red with red if I could find a red that wouldn't clash too horribly with my skirt.

I used this outfit from J. Crew as a guide...

Here's what I came up with:

Old Anthropologie shirt, hand-me-down red v-neck, old Chadwick's skirt, Banana Republic herringbone tights, Boden boots

It's not perfect, but it does mix things up a bit, and I like all the red.

I also always wear my festive black coat with the bright gold buttons!

Tempted by tunics

In the cart. Out of the cart. I've been nearly buying the top two tunics below since the Boden sale began.
Tunics are great! So much more interesting, I think, than just a top.
Wear them alone with tights. Wear them with cords, jeans, skinnies or wide-legs; boots, oxfords, flats, or heels.
Boden carries some of the cutest tunics around. I'm hoping these ones will get marked down just a drop more.

The jury's still out

Here's what I wore to jury duty yesterday:

I had lunch with a friend downtown, and she said, "They're sure to pick you for the jury--you look so put together!"

I was inspired by the outfit to the right from J.Crew to mix orange with black or gray or black and white. I invested about $15 in the vibrant melon
J. Crew top to give the color combo a try, and I figured jury duty was a good place to test-drive it.

The cardigan, by the way, is GAP maternity. It's a fun sweater with a removable fur color. It's not available anymore, but don't overlook one-button maternity cardigans--great for showing off what's underneathe!

Seems to me from my voyages around the web that orange and melon are still hot! GAP, among others, offers several orange tops, pants, and skirts.
