Do you remember as a girl how you'd get dressed up every now & then, but you only had your basic winter coat, & you'd wear it over your nice dress--a horrible fashion faux pas. Well, today, that same look is just fine, encouraged even. Pull out the winter parka & throw it over your cocktail dress--sexy & youthful.

And bad mistakes--I've made a few

Recent dumb purchases...

Let's start with this dress that I ordered from England on ebay. It came & was way too sparkly for me--rhinestones all across the shoulders on the back! I begged the seller to let me return it. She did! But I had to send it back to England, which ended up costing me the exact same amount as the dress cost.
Resulting loss: initial shipping cost, which was about $15

Next up...my glasses. I picked out these glasses (below) with a gift card! Ran to optometrist (ReplaceALens), paid around $120 to replace lenses with my prescription. But the frames were too heavy for my face, hurt the bridge of my nose, & felt awkward. Went to Costco eyewear counter; they put old reading lenses back in frames (for free). I returned the glasses to Anthropologie and picked out the pink-framed pair (below). Took lenses from first pair back to ReplaceALens. ReplaceALens cut the first lenses down to fit the second pair of frames!
Result: happy customer with new glasses. Mistake amended but what an ordeal!

Last but not least (I'm sure there are more dumb purchases, but just these three come to mind): this skirt. I loved this skirt when it was sold by Zara in December of 2014 but didn't buy it because it was too expensive. So I jumped to buy it when I found it on Poshmark for $15. But it was only in a small, & I wear a medium. Bought it anyway--it's pretty tight, can't return it. Also a rather difficult genre--I'd have rare opportunities to wear it!
Resulting loss: $15

So, in total, I lost around $50 (incl. gas, shipping, & hassle) for this installment of Dumb Purchases.

Another continuation on the horizon

Well, the time has come for my Jig (Jiggle, Rig-a-Jig, Riggle, Gordon, Gordano, the "boss,"--real name Jordon) to leave middle school. He's always been kind of old & has always had a deep voice, so it's not as shocking, but it's still not easy.

Meanwhile, Jordon's got a new suit for continuation (below), and I'm trying to figure out what to wear. He took all the photos in this post (I pay $2 a photo) but has no idea that he's helping me figure out the best outfit for the event. If you ask him his favorite one, he just shrugs his shoulders.

Outfits #2 and #3 are possibly on the chopping block--#3 in particular looked better before I got photographed in it--unless you really like one of them. Is #4 too casual? I wear #5 to work sometimes, so I'm not sure about it.

Outfit #1 is a strong possibility depending on the weather (not if it's too warm). Outfit #6 is also strong possibility since I never get to wear this dress.
