My friend and I enjoyed a day at the Ives Saint Laurent exhibit at the Denver Art Museum last week. Walking through Saint Laurent's many designs was like window shopping. We did a last return to our favorite pieces at the end, dresses I will long remember. Then we had lunch and wine at Mad Greens, a perfect endcap to our outing.
I learned that Saint Laurent 1) loved the woman's form (we love him for that!), 2) that he hated "the snobbery of wealth," and 3) that his pret-à-porter (ready-to-wear) collection took fashion from the runways to the streets, in particular revolutionizing the work world by introducing pants and suits as appropriate attire for women.
We celebrate Saint Laurent for his vision, his daring, and for his lasting gift to the fashion we wear today.
