Bring on the brown lip color for summer

Especially for the summer, I seek lighter shades of lipstick. For me, browns give me a bit of color while looking almost like I'm not wearing lipstick at all. I went on a search for browns last week that started with a visit to Ulta & ended in the grocery store make-up aisle...

Several people at two different Ulta stores tried to help me find brown lip shades.
We looked at Bare Minerals, Lancôme, Ulta (their own line), Burt's Bees, & dozens others. I nearly bought a brown color by It Cosmetics, but it was $24, & I couldn't test the color.
I tried some Nyx vampy browns on my hand, but they were too dark. >>>
The closest we came to what I wanted was a shade called "1993" by Urban Decay (below), which is discontinued except as a lip pencil. It costs $20, & I didn't buy it.

Did you know H&M carries cosmetics? This lipstick below is my favorite purchase from my search. It's a slim little lipstick that fits easily in my purse & delivers a sheer swash of color so close to natural but just a little bit better--perfect subtle shade for summer.

From Burt's Bees

Burt's Bees is available at Whole Foods & many other places (including our college bookstore) as well as online. I've bought a number of Burt's Bees' tinted lip balms without trying them first & never been happy with the color once opened. But I was able to try these new lipsticks on my hand at Whole Foods, & they looked great! The color below is "Russet River"; I plan to buy it next time round.

From the grocery store

After the failed search at Ulta, I couldn't resist roaming through the lipsticks at the grocery store. I decided I'd give Revlon's "Chocoliscious" a try for around $5. It's a little darker than the sheer color from H&M, but I still like it a lot.
