I don't need...
a diamond ring
I was at a party the other day where women were talking about diamond rings & how they wished their husband had given them one or how they were going to buy one for themselves. And I thought to myself, "Nope--I don't need one." To me, diamonds are just sparkly rocks.
a lace-fronted sweatshirt
Too trendy. I thought I might have needed one earlier in the season, but now I'm good :-)
Prada, Tory, Yves Saint Laurent--I confess I've never owned anything from a high designer except a t-shirt from Masato.
On the whole, I judge clothes by their appearance, not by their label. Although I appreciate the prototypes that designers bring to us, I have no desire to own high-end designer clothes. Thank heavens! :-)
I can't walk in a heel over 3 inches. If it's high at all, I need a stacked heel for stability. :-) I admire & respect those women who can wear spikes.
Well, I'd actually like some silk undergarments :-) But I haven't bought any. I could really use some new shapewear or at least some new undies!).
expensive athletic shoes
I did end up buying some new $30 Nike tennies at the Nike outlet in 2013 but just for walking, no Air Jordans or the like.
yoga wear, dance wear, golf wear (I almost bought some of this), a new swimsuit, ski wear
Although sales of workout gear are growing more than other type of clothing (see article on it here), I don't need any of these things now (partially because I bought some of it last year :-)
a fur coat
Some women need to own a fur, & I would like a faux-fur hat. But I have no need for a real fur, & I'd never want to wear something that could offend others.
Everyone's list is different when it comes to things they feel they do & don't need. Some people need fine suits for work but wear faded jeans & tees on the weekends. An athlete, on the other hand, may wear expensive, high-tech gear on the weekends but dress casually the rest of the week.
So I've saved $25,000 or so in things I didn't buy! Wow! (Actually, I might need the lace-front sweatshirt... ;-)
What didn't you buy in 2013?
